Currently only magenta is being used for transparency for images without alpha channel. But what when you need to use it in image itself? Yes, I realize I could use slightly similar color like (255,0,254), but editing such image afterwards would be nightmare, especially in a team or after several months of hiatus where you don't know which pixels are exactly transparent and which aren't without inspecting each magenta pixel.

Magenta transparency is used only for .bmp images. Just use .pngs - they are very small in size and .bmp should be obsolete. Even MsPaint have a .png export.
