Topic Terava By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-22 04:24
How do you control the character in Terra Vera for Iphone?

in your demo video showing Terra Vera running on the Iphone you walk left and right I think by touching the left or right side of the screen right?

though how are going to do other stuff as the Iphone does not have any buttons you can use,the only button it has is the menu button
which I assume hiting that would take you back to the main menu of the Iphone,I assume you will use of the touchscreen also to perform any functions in the game

since Terra Vera is written using C++ ,Im assuming that the files you copy onto your Iphone do not contain any source code?
if this is true would you beable to upload the current version of the Terra Vera files that you need to copy into an Iphone,so that other people on this forum can try out
Terra Vera at its current stage on there Iphone?

Yeh the price is quite expensive, what platforms  does Gosu currently use OpenAL for sound/music?

Would be great if you could replace FMOD for OpenAL when using Gosu with Windows
Topic Gosu for Consoles/Mobiles By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-21 15:10
FMOD for Iphone, not sure if you know about this already
but there is a version of FMOD for the Iphone

Thanks

I think I will wait a while until you have done a bit more work on the iphone version of gosu ,like adding looping music etc
as it seems it is still in early stages of dev

in the meantime I will make gosu games with ruby for windows, mac and linux

Keep up the great work Julian

Is the current version the best version of gosu to use when making Iphone game or does it have any problems?

have you got sound and music to work on the iphone?

Which would be the best C++ compiler to use when making gosu games for the iphone?

I will give it a try soon as I now have access to an iphone

Topic What Features would you like too be added to Gosu? By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-20 11:18
   >>instead of adding random features that may never or hardly be used

>I can't remember Gosu doing something like that.

Yeh I know though as julian has said he does not want to add features that will never be used
and I though if people could say what features they want added that would help julian decide what features would be used most and too add first

    >>#2 - Dual game pad support for Windows,Mac and Linux preferably with Vibration Feedback Support

>I think there are only a few people that really would use that .

yeh maybe so though I think it would be a nice feature to have,I would use this feature if it was added

What Features would you like too be added to Gosu?

I think if people say what featues they would like added then that would help gosu progress well,as it would be great to know what features
people would use when they are added, instead of adding random features that may never or hardly be used

I would like the following added

#1 - 100% free code so that you can use it for freeware or commercial products without needing to pay for any extra licenses ( like fmod if you are going to sell your game )

#2 - Dual game pad support for Windows,Mac and Linux preferably with Vibration Feedback Support
Topic Vibration Feedback Support for Gamepad in Gosu By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-19 17:36
Since you and get Gamepads for PC these days that have Vibration Feedback it would be great if Gosu game could use this feature

Is it currently possible to use Vibration Feedback with Gosu games with the current version of Gosu?

If the current version of Gosu does not support Vibration Feedback do you have any plans to add it to future versions?
Topic Does Gosu support 2 gamepads at once? By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-19 17:21
Im sure you will work something out by the time I need it which will be early 2011(18 months away)

If not hopefully I get some  workaround going to make it possible, like joy2key

Keep up the great work Julian!
Topic Does Gosu support 2 gamepads at once? By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-19 17:07
After I have finished Arthur's Adventures,im going to make a 2D RPG Game in the style of Breath of Fire 1 and 2 ,Final Fantasy 6

After I have finished the 2D RPG im going to make a 2D Beatem up game in the style of Final Fight and Street of Rage/Bare Knuckle

Hopefully Gosu will have dual gamepad support by the time I start making the 2D Beatem(First few days of 2011)

I plan to have Arthur's Adventures finished around Mid December 2009(December 24th at the lastest)
as it has to be finished for the "The Shinobi Chef Gosu Game/App Competition 2009"
then I will take a week break from programming games and then start the 2D RPG in the first few days of 2010 ;)

at this stage I plan to have the 2D RPG finished by Mid December 2010 and submit it into the "The Shinobi Chef Gosu Game/App Competition 2010",hopefully by then Gosu will have Dual Gamepad support as I will
start programming the 2D Beatem up in the first few days of 2011,if Gosu does not have dual gamepad support by December 2011 then I will
have to make player one use the gamepad and player two use the keyboard or have the second player gamepad mapped to the keyboard with something like joy2key

I have lots of work ahead for myself :) though it will be a lot of fun as programming games for me is one of the most fun thing ive ever done in my life so far, game programming is a labor of love

Edit-Typo's LOL

Does Gosu support 2 gamepads at once?

ie so you can a two player game and have both users have there own gamepad?

if it is possible how would the code look?

currently im using the following code to use gamepads, though it does not specify which gamepad

if id == Button::GpButton3  then @cptn.useitem end

Yeh I agree the wiz looks very nice,I want one too!

one thing that im alittle concerned about though is the d-pad on the right as the action buttons

I read on the net they are going to make a revised version which will remove the d-pad on the right and replace it will normal buttons, though can not find any screen shots
to show the new design

have anybody tryed the wiz???

Gosu should work on the wiz with no or little modifications as the os is linux ubuntu, any comments?

I think it would be great if we could get Gosu to work on the PSP and the wiz, they would be a great handhelds for making games on

What are the chances of getting Gosu working on a Console such as a Sega Saturn,Sega Dreamcast,Sony Playstation 1 or 2,Xbox

Gosu would probably work on the above Consoles if they where running linux right?

how hard would it be to get Ruby installed on the above consoles?

I have heard about plans for Gosu on I-Phone though are there any other mobiles that could run Gosu?
such as the Nokia N-Gage?

Also which version of Gosu would be best suited to Consoles/Mobiles?Ruby or C++?
at a guess I would think C++ though from what ive read the C++ version of Gosu has issues getting C++ and Gosu to be nice to each other
Topic Arthur's Adventures(Working Title)(Platform RPG) By Shinobi Chef Date 2009-06-14 13:21
The Levels in Arthur's Adventures will be quite big, there will be a guided path with arrow signs etc, though there will also be many hidden areas that contain special items
such as New ability's such as Wall Jump,New Weapons,Armour's, Spells etc

Since Arthur's Adventures will be an Adventure game you will be able to go back to any area you have previously been too, instead of progressing though the levels
like in Games such as Wonder Boy 1 and 2,Super Ghouls and Ghosts.Arthur's Adventures Levels will have Exploration as it is a Platform RPG

as releasing the source code will help people learn Ruby and Gosu/Chipmunk

it would be great if you make a full game

Ive released the source code for Arthur's Adventures

I am currently making Arthur's Adventures into a full game

Very Nice,Would like to try it out sometime

If you are getting some slowdown then you could try Ruby 1.9 as Ive read that is has better efficiency than 1.8.6 ,thats assuming you are
not already using V1.9

Are you going to upload it here?as you can attach files :)

I would love to checkout the source code for it

I am also making my own game based on Cptn Ruby called "Arthur's Adventures"

Fixing Threads in Ruby 1.8: A 2-10x Performance Boost

Joe Damato has been on a roll lately, first with a 6 line EventMachine fix that yielded impressive results, then a configure.in fix to give 30% more performance, and now by getting a 2-10x performance boost with a fix to Ruby 1.8's threading.

How much will this increase Gosu's performance??

though I will make it so you can customise the controls so you can setup it up to your own liking :)

Though I do plan to have ladders which you would go up and down with the up and down keys or gamepad direction pad

though people that would like to make jump the up key,how would you like to go up and down ladders???
